While the Jaguars did not release the financial parameters of the agreement, ESPN’s Adam Schefter says that Lawrence became one of the league’s highest-paid quarterbacks. The transaction is worth $275 million, with $200 million in guaranteed funds.

“With this five-year extension, the vision we had when we selected Trevor first overall in 2021 has become a reality,” Jaguars general manager Trent Baalke said. “Our aims have always been consistent. As an organization, we have continually emphasized the value of extending our core players, and Trevor is a bedrock talent that we will continue to build around in our pursuit of a championship.”

The Jaguars selected Trevor Lawrence as the first overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft. After a difficult first season marked by coaching issues, Lawrence rebounded in 2022 and earned a Pro Bowl bid. He guided Jacksonville to a 9-8 record and the Divisional Round of the playoffs, where they lost to the eventual Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs.

Lawrence was supposed to make another leap in 2023, but ankle and shoulder ailments in the second half of the season kept him from doing so. He completed 65.6% of his passes, totaling 4,016 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions.

While Lawrence has yet to shown consistency in operating at a high level, the Jaguars appear to believe he is worth a long-term contract. The time will tell whether they were correct.
