Eli Tomac is officially back in action

Eli Tomac Back on the Bike, Eyes Return to SuperMotocross League in May

Supercross veteran and multi-time champion Eli Tomac is officially back in action, sharing on social media that he’s returned to riding as he eyes a potential comeback at the start of the Pro Motocross season.

“Back at it,” Tomac posted. “Goal as of now is [Pro Motocross] Round 1, would love to sneak in the last round of SX, but we’ll see where the next couple of weeks take us.”

Tomac’s recovery is tracking closely with his initial timeline. In February, he told Swap Moto Live’s Donn Maeda that he had “a realistic chance to come back for the last few Supercross [races].” Now, with the season finale at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City coming up on May 10, the possibility of seeing the No. 3 Yamaha back on the gate is very real.

Tomac started the 2025 Monster Energy Supercross season strong, winning Round 2 in San Diego and extending his streak to 11 straight seasons with at least one victory. He posted three top-five finishes in the first four rounds before suffering a freak accident in Tampa, Florida. During qualification, his leg became pinned under a foot peg after a rough landing—resulting in a broken fibula. Remarkably, Tomac still lined up for the main event and gutted out a 17th-place finish.

The timing of Tomac’s injury was especially frustrating. Just one week prior, title favorite Jett Lawrence was sidelined for the season with a knee injury in Glendale, Arizona, potentially opening a path for Tomac to make a championship run.

Now, with his focus shifting to the upcoming Pro Motocross and SuperMotocross seasons, Tomac is working to return at full strength. The Pro Motocross opener is scheduled for May 24 at Fox Raceway in Pala, California—just two weeks after the Supercross finale.

Despite missing seven rounds, Tomac remains 15th in combined Supercross and Motocross points, holding a 41-point cushion above the 21st spot. That’s significant, as finishing inside the top 20 is required for direct qualification into the SuperMotocross playoffs.

Tomac, a four-time Pro Motocross champion (2017, 2018, 2019, 2022), is still chasing his first SuperMotocross World Championship title—a goal that remains within reach if he can return healthy and find his form quickly.

With time running short and competition heating up, all eyes will be on Tomac in the coming weeks as fans await news of whether he’ll make that gate drop in Salt Lake City—and how strong he’ll be when the outdoor season roars to life.
