The Buffalo Bills have received a string of unfortunate news regarding their tight end group, dealing with both a serious injury and a key roster decision that could impact their offensive depth heading into the 2025 season.
One of the biggest setbacks involves tight end Armani Rogers, who recently suffered a devastating torn Achilles tendon during a training session. This marks the second time in his young NFL career that he has endured such an injury, with his first coming during his time on the Philadelphia Eagles’ practice squad in 2022. Rogers, who was signed to a reserve/futures contract by the Bills on January 17 during the team’s playoff run, now faces another long road to recovery, with surgery required to repair the damage.
Rogers comes from a strong football lineage, as he is the son of former linebacker Sam Rogers, a second-round pick by the Bills in the 1994 NFL Draft who played in Buffalo from 1994 to 2000. The younger Rogers made a name for himself in college as a dynamic dual-threat quarterback at UNLV and Ohio University. In 2017, he was named the Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Year, throwing for 1,471 yards and six touchdowns while adding 780 rushing yards and eight scores on the ground. Over the course of his collegiate career, he accounted for 45 total touchdowns between passing and rushing, showcasing his versatility before transitioning to tight end at the professional level.
Meanwhile, in another significant tight end development, the Bills have opted not to tender backup tight end Quintin Morris, effectively making him a free agent when the new league year begins on March 12. The decision means that Morris, who had been with the team since 2021, will have the opportunity to explore other opportunities around the league rather than remaining with Buffalo under a new contract.

With these developments, Buffalo’s tight end depth now looks different than it did just weeks ago. While the Bills still have Dalton Kincaid, Dawson Knox, and Zach Davidson under contract for the 2025 season, the loss of Morris and the uncertain future of Rogers create questions about the position group moving forward. Buffalo’s front office may now need to explore additional options via free agency or the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft to reinforce the unit and ensure they have adequate depth behind Kincaid and Knox.
As the Bills continue their offseason roster moves and preparations, addressing the tight end situation will be a key priority, especially as the team looks to maintain offensive firepower and compete at the highest level in the AFC once again.
