RANGERS TRADE WARNING : Rangers Must Avoid the Massive Blunder of Taking on an Overpaid, Defensive Struggles and a Burdensome Contract.

Rangers Must Steer Clear of Seth Jones Trade Speculation

The New York Rangers need reinforcements on defense, as their struggles in their own zone have been evident all season. With plenty of cap space available ahead of the trade deadline, the team has options to address this issue. However, rumors linking them to Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Seth Jones should be avoided at all costs. While some believe a move for the veteran blueliner makes sense, it would be a costly misstep.

Once regarded as one of the NHL’s top defensemen during his time with the Columbus Blue Jackets, Jones’ performance has significantly declined since joining Chicago. His massive contract, which pays him $9.5 million annually for the next four years, is considered one of the worst in the league. At 29, he is already on the downside of his career, making any trade for him a risky proposition.

Defensive Struggles Outweigh Offensive Production

Statistically, Jones remains a decent offensive contributor, recording six goals and 20 assists in 38 games this season. However, his defensive shortcomings make him a liability. At 5-on-5, he allows more goals than he contributes, with concerning advanced metrics that paint him as one of the weaker defensive players in the league.

While the Blackhawks’ struggles may contribute to his poor numbers, they don’t tell the full story. Jones is simply not the dominant force he once was, and his hefty contract only amplifies the risk of acquiring him. Despite his public frustration with losing, the Rangers cannot afford to take on his declining play and financial burden.

With better defensive options available, New York must stay far away from any discussions involving Jones and look for smarter, more effective solutions to bolster their blue line.
