The Chicago Cubs kicked off their second week of spring training with the signing of 16-year veteran infielder Justin Turner. The team was in need of a third baseman after missing out on Houston Astros star Alex Bregman, who signed with the Boston Red Sox last week. Turner, a seasoned player, brings the leadership the Cubs seek and is eager to mentor younger players during spring training.
One of those promising young players is outfield prospect Kevin Alcantara. At 22 years old, Alcantara was originally signed by the New York Yankees in 2018 from the Dominican Republic before being traded to the Cubs as part of the Anthony Rizzo deal in 2021. MLB.com ranks him as the 90th best prospect in the game, but Alcantara is confident in his abilities and views himself as more than just an average player. In an interview with Bruce Levine of 670the Score, he shared that he envisions himself as a future Hall of Famer. “I picture myself that way. My father always told me to aim for greatness when working toward your goals,” Alcantara said.

Last season, Alcantara had a brief stint in the majors with the Cubs, playing in three games and posting a .100 batting average with one hit in ten at-bats. While he still has much to prove before earning a place among baseball’s legends, the hope is that he will see more MLB action in the upcoming season.
