SEC: Arkansas Razorback’s File Lawsuit Against LSU To Get Back At Them

On January 2022, defensive backs Greg Brooks Jr. and Joe Foucha transferred from the University of Arkansas to Louisiana State University (LSU), returning to their home state. Brooks, who had been a consistent starter for the Razorbacks, continued his collegiate football career with the LSU Tigers.

In September 2023, Brooks experienced symptoms of vertigo and dizziness, leading to the discovery of a rare brain tumor. He underwent surgery at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Following the procedure, Brooks faced significant health challenges, including multiple strokes during surgery, which have left him unable to walk and in need of lifelong care.

In August 2024, Brooks filed a lawsuit against LSU and the medical team involved in his treatment, alleging negligence and medical malpractice. The lawsuit claims that LSU staff encouraged him to continue playing despite his symptoms and threatened to revoke his starting position if he did not comply. Additionally, the suit alleges that surgical errors led to his current condition. Both LSU and Our Lady of the Lake Hospital have refrained from commenting on the specifics of the case due to privacy laws and ongoing litigation but have expressed support for Brooks during his rehabilitation.

This situation highlights the complex challenges student-athletes may face regarding health, institutional responsibilities, and the potential long-term impacts of sports-related medical decisions.
