A new analysis indicates what Darren Rizzi would have to achieve to be the New Orleans Saints’ head coach in 2025. And that is an attainable objective.
The Saints did not have the season they hoped for in 2024. Despite possessing a solid roster, they enter their Week 13 game against the Los Angeles Rams with a 4-7 record and third place in the NFC South. Injuries have undoubtedly hampered them this season, but even when healthy, they have not performed to the best of their ability.
That is why the organization took the risk of firing head coach Dennis Allen earlier this month. His dismissal was well-deserved, as the former Raiders head coach concluded with an 18-25 record over three seasons and 43 games. Darren Rizzi, the veteran Saints coach and former assistant coach, takes his position.
In his first two games as top decision-maker, the 54-year-old is 2-0. It has revitalized New Orleans and its fan base. Especially since they are only two games behind first in the South despite a 4-7 record.
So, if the team plays harder for Rizzi, what should he do to keep his job? ESPN NFL Insider Jeremy Fowler gave the solution on Wednesday.

“When Darren Rizzi took over as interim coach for the Saints three weeks ago, his chances of landing the permanent position appeared remote. They might still be – interim coaches are always long bets — but he’s made an early impression by winning his first two games,” Fowler wrote. “He has a good rapport with the players and values their feedback. To minimize injury, he has reduced his practice schedule. And he has New Orleans playing with purpose.
“If he can finish the season 5-3, which means winning three more games before the season is up, his case will be enhanced. And the schedule is somewhat manageable, since four of the Saints’ final six opponents are below.500.”
New Orleans Saints’ record: 4-7.
The Saints will play their final six games against the Rams, Giants, Commanders, Packers, Raiders, and Buccaneers. The Giants and Raiders matchups might easily get him more than halfway to his target, considering both are among the league’s worst teams this season.
