The Calgary Flames announced Monday that forward Anthony Mantha will miss the rest of the season due to an ACL injury that requires surgery on Thursday. This setback not only ends a promising season for the veteran winger, but it also has an impact on any trade plans Calgary may have had, given that Mantha was playing under an expiring contract. In response to the injury, the Flames summoned forward Adam Klapka from their AHL affiliate, the Calgary Wranglers, to reinforce their roster. Mantha signed a one-year, $3.5 million contract with Calgary in the offseason and has four goals and three assists in 13 games this season.

With Mantha scheduled to become an unrestricted free agency in the summer of 2025, it’s unclear whether he’s played his final game with the Flames, as the team hasn’t announced whether it wants to re-sign the forward. The injury could potentially interrupt Jonathan Huberdeau’s season, since he has shared the ice with Mantha and scored 10 points in 16 games, the most among Flames forwards.
To make up for Mantha’s absence, the Flames brought up veteran Dryden Hunt from their AHL affiliate, the Calgary Wranglers, on Tuesday. In terms of the Calgary Flames’ season, they currently have a solid 8-5-3 record, placing them third in the Pacific Division, one and two points behind the Vegas Golden Knights and Los Angeles Kings.
