The New York Knicks have signed rookie guard Boo Buie to a two-way contract, filling the slot vacated by Ariel Hukporti, who has been promoted to the team’s standard roster. Buie, a standout guard at Northwestern, went undrafted in the 2024 NBA Draft. During his fifth college season, he averaged an impressive 19.0 points, 5.0 assists, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game, while shooting .438 from the field, .434 from three, and .858 from the free-throw line. His performance earned him All-Big Ten first-team honors in both 2023 and 2024.
Initially, Buie was expected to sign an Exhibit 10 contract with the Phoenix Suns but ultimately joined the Knicks under the same terms. After a brief stint in camp, he reported to the Westchester Knicks, New York’s G League affiliate. His addition to the Knicks’ two-way roster gives him the chance to split time between the NBA and G League, allowing the team to further evaluate his potential.
With Boo Buie’s signing to a two-way contract, he’ll now have the opportunity to contribute to the Knicks’ NBA team in addition to playing in the G League for the Westchester Knicks. This deal also brings a substantial pay increase, as he stands to earn $532,025 for the remainder of the season if he stays on the two-way contract.
The Knicks’ decision to add Buie to a two-way spot clears the path for veteran sharpshooter Matt Ryan to be signed to a standard NBA deal, alongside Ariel Hukporti, who was recently promoted. Ryan’s addition strengthens the Knicks’ shooting options on the main roster, particularly valuable for floor spacing.
With Buie now occupying one of the two-way slots, he joins Jacob Toppin and rookie Kevin McCullar, both of whom are also on two-way deals. This setup allows the Knicks to develop young talent while keeping roster flexibility.
