As Devin Booker and the Phoenix Suns were wrapping up a disappointing season, speculations circulated that the star guard had his sights set on playing for the New York Knicks.
The Suns’ big three of Booker, Kevin Durant, and Bradley Beal did not perform as expected. The eventual result was a first-round sweep at the hands of the Minnesota Timberwolves, and head coach Frank Vogel was sacked.
Now that Mike Budenholzer has taken over in Phoenix, we’re learning more about Booker and his future with the Suns.
Fans in the desert can relax. Booker is not likely to want a trade anytime soon.
“I continue to hear that there is no Devin Booker, like, trade request coming,” ESPN’s Zach Lowe wrote on Monday.
“I continue to hear that there is no Devin Booker, like, trade request coming,” ESPN’s Zach Lowe wrote on Monday.
This is consistent with Suns owner Mat Ishbia’s statement after Phoenix was eliminated from the playoffs that the team wants to keep the big three together.
Devin Booker to remain with the Phoenix Suns
Booker, 27, is on a four-year, $221.09 million contract that runs through the 2027-28 season. Short of the star asking a trade, he’ll stay in Phoenix for the long haul.
This past season, Booker averaged 27.1 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 6.9 assists per game. He hit 49% from the field, with 36% from three points.
The bigger question for Phoenix is Kevin Durant’s future with the Suns. He was engaged in scandal throughout the 2023-24 season, fueling suspicion that the two-time NBA Finals MVP will request a trade. He has been connected to the Golden State Warriors, his previous squad.
In any case, do not expect Booker to force his way back east. Lowe’s study effectively puts an end to that idea.
