Browns defensive end Myles Garrett returned to practice after taking a day off to rest a sore foot, and he is expected to play in Cleveland’s upcoming game against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.
Garrett, who was named the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year in 2023, missed Thursday’s practice as the Browns (0-1) prepared for the matchup.
In Cleveland’s season-opening loss to the Dallas Cowboys, Garrett had a solid performance with one sack and a forced fumble. Over the last three-plus seasons, Garrett has accumulated an impressive 47 sacks, cementing his status as one of the league’s top defensive players.
The Browns’ defense is dealing with significant injury concerns, making Myles Garrett’s return to practice crucial. This week, Cleveland placed five players on injured reserve, including key contributors like starting safety Juan Thornhill and defensive tackle Maurice Hurst II, who will be out for a minimum of four games. With Garrett returning, the defense gains a much-needed boost, especially after fellow defensive end Za’Darius Smith also rejoined practice following his absence due to a back issue.
On the offensive side, the Browns will be without tight end David Njoku, who sprained his ankle in the season opener and could be out for several weeks. Njoku was a major part of the offense last season, leading the team in catches and receiving touchdowns. Additionally, left tackle Jedrick Wills Jr. has been ruled out as he continues to recover from offseason knee surgery, and two-time All-Pro right tackle Jack Conklin is listed as questionable after missing the opener.
With injuries affecting both sides of the ball, the Browns will be looking to rely on their remaining playmakers, including Garrett and Smith on defense, to turn things around after their 0-1 start.
