Instead, the funds are being sourced from the university’s athletics revenue, including ticket sales and TV deals, as well as from IPTAY, Clemson’s athletic fundraising group. IPTAY’s contributions come from private donations not designated for specific purposes.
A key detail in this situation is the relationship between Clemson and the law firm Ropes & Gray. Although IPTAY has been paying the firm on behalf of Clemson, making it technically separate from the university’s financial obligations, this arrangement has allowed Clemson to withhold disclosure of any contracts or retainers with the firm prior to March. This distinction emphasizes the complex financial structure Clemson has employed in managing its legal strategy against the ACC.
