JUST IN: New Orleans Saints Reportedly Set To Sign Lions Donovan Peoples-Jones

Donovan Peoples-Jones, a Lions cut candidate at wide receiver, could sign with the Los Angeles Chargers or New Orleans Saints before the regular season begins.

According to reports, the Lions were able to add depth to their receiving corps after making a trade with the Browns last season, but Detroit may be looking to move on. According to USA Today’s Lions wire, the team may reduce its depth chart by removing Peoples-Jones while keeping four starting wide receivers. This season, the Lions will have to make tough selections at the position, although Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams are likely to start.

Kalif Raymond and Isaiah Williams might make the roster as backups, unless the Lions decide to keep Peoples-Jones at WR4 at the last minute. However, if Raymond and Williams are selected as reserves, former Kansas City receiver Daurice Fountain will also be left off the 53-man roster. The Lions acquired Peoples-Jones in a trade for depth because Marvin Jones Jr. was dealing with personal family issues. Detroit has a lot of skill around Jared Goff, so they may not miss him too much.

Despite only participating in eight games and starting one, he has the height and ability to pique the interest of any club looking for depth. He has five catches for 58 yards. The Chargers may benefit from this tall receiver after releasing Mike Williams and Keenan Allen this offseason. Quentin Johnston and Joshua Palmer are the same size, but if things don’t work out, Peoples-Jones may help them. However, the Saints are seeking for an inside receiver, and Peoples-Jones has the versatility to play both inside and outside.

He won’t beat out Chris Olave or Rashid Shaheed, but he’d be a useful WR3 to offer Derek Carr another weapon.
