During the Hungarian Grand Prix, Max Verstappen vented his rage over team radio, while Martin Brundle openly chastised the Dutchman and his teammates.
Martin Brundle thinks that if a Red Bull team member had launched a foul-mouthed outburst as Max Verstappen did in Hungary, they would have been dismissed.
The Dutchman’s supremacy has come to an end, with several competitors now winning races at his expense. McLaren finished 1-2 in Budapest, with Verstappen becoming increasingly dissatisfied with his team and the tactics they employed.
He expressed his rage over team radio, publicizing it for all to hear. Gianpiero Lambiase, his racing engineer, faced his fury with a message that read: “No mate, don’t give me that s***. You people gave me this s*** strategy, okay? I’m attempting to save what’s left. F***!”
Verstappen finally fought with Lewis Hamilton and dropped down the order, finishing fifth. He has now held open discussions with top Red Bull executives, but Brundle was unimpressed by his x-rated blasts.
He remarked, “If you keep telling someone that they’re always right, even if they’re wrong, they’ll never change the way they do things.” But it’s interesting to me why Max is driving so angrily right now. It lost him at least third place, and possibly a victory in Hungary, as he tripped over Lewis and struggled.
“And you know, the team has done some incredible things for him in terms of strategy to win races and World Championships, and I kind of imagine that when he hit Lewis, the pit wall pressed the button and said, ‘That was rubbish driving Max, sort yourself out.'” Beep, beep, beep. That would be extremely unusual, and that individual would be fired. But is it really any different?
Brundle continued, “I was disappointed with what he did. I don’t believe you can rinse your team like that in public. Close the door, go back, and figure out why they were doing what they were doing.”
