Carnival Cruise Line has made waves this week—and not in the way many vacationers were hoping. The popular cruise line recently announced a series of schedule changes and cancellations that have impacted thousands of passengers across multiple upcoming sailings.

Grand Turk Swapped for Amber Cove
For some cruisers, the changes were more of a letdown than a cancellation. Guests booked on select Caribbean sailings recently received notices that their highly anticipated stop at Grand Turk, Turks and Caicos would be replaced with a visit to Amber Cove, Carnival’s private destination in the Dominican Republic. While Amber Cove offers its own slice of tropical paradise, it wasn’t the island escape some had originally dreamed of.
Dry Dock Drama: Carnival Magic and Horizon Affected
The more significant blow, however, came for those booked on Carnival Magic and Carnival Horizon.
Routine drydock maintenance—essential for ship upgrades and safety—caused a domino effect of schedule shifts. Originally planned for fall 2025, Carnival Magic’s drydock has been rescheduled to spring 2026, forcing the cancellation of several voyages between April 18 and May 24, 2026. The ship, which sails year-round from Miami, will be out of service during this period.
This rescheduling also caused a ripple effect. To accommodate Carnival Magic’s new drydock window, Carnival Horizon’s transatlantic sailing from Barcelona to Miami, scheduled for June 15, 2026, has now also been scrapped.
Carnival expressed regret over the disruption, stating in emails to impacted guests:
“We have had to reschedule Carnival Magic’s drydock to the spring of 2026 and we’re sorry to inform you that your cruise has been cancelled.”
What Carnival Is Doing for Affected Guests
Passengers affected by these cancellations are being offered full refunds of their cruise fares and any pre-purchased onboard items. In addition, Carnival is assisting travelers with rebooking options for alternative sailings.
While this news is disappointing—especially for those who had planned bucket-list vacations—Carnival’s commitment to keeping ships in top condition and ensuring passenger safety is commendable. Still, it’s a reminder of the unpredictable nature of travel and the importance of flexibility when booking any trip.
Looking Ahead
Carnival continues to expand and upgrade its fleet, with new ships like the Carnival Festivale set to launch in the coming years. So while this news is frustrating in the short term, there’s still plenty of exciting cruising on the horizon.
