JUST IN :NY Jets Enters The Race To Land Another Veteran Star

There could be a potential reunion between the New York Jets and tight end Tyler Conklin in the near future. According to NFL Network Insider Mike Garafolo, the Jets are among several teams expressing interest in signing Conklin. Garafolo mentioned that it’s somewhat surprising Conklin is still available at this point in the offseason, and he’s scheduled to visit the Los Angeles Chargers soon.

Conklin, who has had solid performances over the past few seasons, including 170 catches for 1,622 yards and 7 touchdowns with the Jets, has become a notable free agent target. Multiple reports suggest Conklin is expected to have a strong market, with some analysts predicting he will attract interest from at least four teams.

Although Conklin remains unsigned, he’s expected to come at a reasonable price in free agency. Initially, Pro Football Focus projected a three-year, $27 million deal for him, with $16.25 million guaranteed, positioning him among the top 15 highest-paid tight ends. However, with the first wave of free agency over, it’s likely Conklin won’t secure such a large contract moving forward.

The Jets’ tight end group currently lacks depth, with Andrew Beck, Neal Johnson, Zack Kuntz, Jeremy Ruckert, and Stone Smartt filling the positions. If Conklin returns, he would instantly become the top tight end on the roster. At 29, Conklin is a reliable player, known for his dependable hands and solid all-around play, particularly as a check-down option in the passing game and a solid pass protector.

Conklin has a long track record, appearing in 114 games with 64 starts, accumulating 263 receptions for 2,544 yards and 11 touchdowns. If the Jets bring him back, they may still consider adding another tight end through the 2025 NFL Draft. Conklin’s experience could be beneficial in mentoring a younger player entering the league.
