The San Francisco Giants’ well-loved broadcasting team—Dave Flemming, Mike Krukow, Duane Kuiper, and Jon Miller—have all signed new multiyear contracts this offseason, as confirmed by Giants president and CEO Larry Baer and Krukow to SFGATE on Wednesday, Simon reported.
The group has been the primary announcers for the Giants for over two decades, with Krukow and Kuiper mostly handling TV duties and Miller and Flemming focusing on radio. Kuiper and Krukow began broadcasting Giants games in 1986 and 1990, respectively, after their playing careers ended, and they’ve worked together ever since, except for 1993 when Kuiper announced for the Colorado Rockies. Miller, the 2010 Ford C. Frick Award winner, started with the Giants in 1997, and Flemming joined the team in 2003.
Krukow, who suffers from inclusion body myositis, is unable to travel with the team for away games. Simon mentioned a “notable adjustment” in his new contract that Krukow is “particularly pleased with.” As more exclusive national broadcasts are added by MLB, Krukow’s new deal allows him to shift to radio on KNBR for certain games. This means Krukow will call all 81 home games this season and 23 away games, but will do so from the TV station’s San Francisco studio, while Kuiper covers the road games from the stadium.
In 2023, readers of Awful Announcing ranked San Francisco’s broadcast crew as the best in the league, and second-best in 2024. The Giants’ announcers have consistently ranked among the top two in every poll since 2014, even during years like 2017 when the team lost 98 games. With their long tenure and immense popularity, there was never any real doubt that Kuiper, Krukow, Miller, and Flemming would continue with the team.
“As a neat thing, it’s just assumed,” Baer said, according to Simon. “Nobody would [question] that they’re part of the family.”
