The Jets have signed cornerback Kris Boyd, a key special teams contributor throughout his career.
Boyd (5-11, 201) played 365 special teams snaps for the Texans last season, the second-highest total on the team. He participated in all 17 games, logging 48 defensive snaps.
Originally selected by the Vikings in the seventh round of the 2019 draft out of Texas, the 28-year-old Boyd spent four seasons with Minnesota. Over 636 defensive snaps, he recorded 95 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, and 3 pass defenses. As a rookie in 2019, he led the Vikings in special teams snaps with 302, a feat he repeated in 2022 with 403.
A native of Gilmer, TX, Boyd earned first-team All-Big 12 honors in 2018 and comes from a football family. His cousins, Bobby Taylor and Curtis Brown, both played in the NFL. Taylor, a Pro Bowl cornerback, was drafted by the Eagles in the second round in 1995 and spent nine seasons in Philadelphia before finishing his career with Seattle. Brown, like Boyd, played at Texas and was drafted by the Steelers in the third round, playing from 2011-13 before briefly joining the Jets in 2015. He later wrapped up his career in the CFL with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2016.
