BREAKING NEWS: Raiders Hand Down Suspended Fines to Two Players Involved in Altercation.

Canberra teammates Morgan Smithies and Hudson Young have been issued breach notices by the NRL for their involvement in a fight in a Las Vegas elevator but will not be suspended. Under the new rules set by the league’s latest collective bargaining agreement, the details of breach notices are kept private until the players respond. However, AAP has learned that the breach notices sent to Smithies and Young on Monday propose a $2500 fine for each player, which will be suspended for 12 months unless they commit any further offenses. There is no immediate suspension or financial penalty.

The fine has been put on hold for 12 months, contingent on whether any similar offenses occur. The Raiders have also decided not to impose any further penalties on the two players involved in the incident, which occurred at the team hotel in Vegas late last month. On Monday, the NRL stated that the players’ actions “brought the game and their club into disrepute” ahead of the round-one games in the US. At the time, Young and Smithies both appeared in front of the media to apologize for the incident, which happened when one of them was left without a room after returning from a night out.
