The Dallas Cowboys’ longest-tenured player is making a move. Four-time Pro Bowl edge rusher DeMarcus Lawrence has agreed to a three-year contract with the Seattle Seahawks, potentially worth up to $42 million, with $18 million guaranteed, according to NFL Media.
Lawrence was selected by the Cowboys in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft and accumulated 61.5 sacks over his 11 seasons in Dallas. His 2024 season was cut short by a foot injury sustained during a “Thursday Night Football” game against the New York Giants in Week 4. Though there was a slight chance he would return to the field for Dallas last season, Lawrence ultimately ended his year after the team’s five-game losing streak dashed any postseason hopes.

Although Lawrence has only recorded 27.5 sacks since 2019, he continues to be a valuable asset in the run defense. In Seattle, he will reconnect with defensive coordinator Aden Durde, who was the Cowboys’ defensive line coach from 2021 to 2023 under Dan Quinn. Lawrence will join forces with Pro Bowl edge rusher Leonard Williams, 2024 first-round defensive tackle Byron Murphy II, re-signed defensive tackle Jarran Reed, and veteran edge rusher Uchenna Nwosu.
Lawrence is joining a Seahawks defense that ranked 11th in the league for scoring, allowing an average of 21.6 points per game.
In a live stream, Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb was caught off guard when he learned of Lawrence’s departure. During a session with YouTuber N3on, Lamb was surprised by the news that Lawrence had signed with Seattle. Reacting to the chat, Lamb said, “D-Law to Seahawks… woah. He’s gone. I gotta hit my man up.”
