With Rodgers out of the picture, the Jets now face the challenge of finding his replacement. Several options are on the table, ranging from NFL free agency to the draft. However, free agency appears to be the most likely route for New York.

In fact, reports suggest that the Jets are expected to make a major move at the quarterback position in free agency this offseason.

New York Jets Predicted to Make Huge QB Move in 2025 NFL Free Agency

With several intriguing quarterbacks available in free agency, the New York Jets have been linked to a major prediction—one that would require a significant financial commitment to secure a new starting quarterback.

CBS Sports’ Garrett Podell has predicted that Sam Darnold will make a surprising return to the Jets.

“New York’s new offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand comes over after working as the Detroit Lions’ passing game coordinator under Ben Johnson in the league’s highest-scoring offense. The allure of playing with solid weapons and an innovative play caller will lead Darnold to a Jets homecoming, offering a chance to rewrite his early career struggles.”

For the Jets, this could be one of the best possible outcomes. Darnold is coming off a breakout season with the Minnesota Vikings, and returning to the franchise that originally drafted him would make for a compelling storyline.

Given his 2024 performance—playing in all 17 games while completing 66.2% of his passes for 4,319 yards, 35 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions—Darnold has proven he can lead an offense. This is a move the Jets should seriously consider as they search for their next franchise quarterback.
