Buffalo Bills Look to Replace James Cook in 2-Round NFL Mock Draft
If the Buffalo Bills decide not to pay James Cook, they will need to address the running back position in the upcoming NFL Draft. With their strong roster, including an MVP-caliber quarterback, the Bills are still struggling to break through to the Super Bowl despite being one of the NFL’s top teams.
Adding to the pressure, contract talks involving James Cook have become a concern. After a successful season, Cook’s brother, Dalvin, advocated for his younger sibling to get paid, and now James is asking for $15 million per year as he enters the final year of his rookie deal. The Bills front office faces a tough decision on whether to commit to Cook for the future.
If they believe Cook isn’t worth that amount, or they can’t reach an agreement, the Bills could look to the draft for a running back. Despite having Ray Davis on the roster, the Bills typically utilize a committee approach at the position, meaning they’ll likely need a complementary piece.
Bills Find Their Replacement for James Cook in 2-Round NFL Mock Draft
Round 1, No. 30: CB Benjamin Morrison, Notre Dame
Rather than selecting a running back late in the first round, the Bills prioritize bolstering their secondary by drafting Notre Dame cornerback Benjamin Morrison. Although Morrison’s 2024 season was cut short by a hip injury, he offers significant upside and has the potential to cover any receiver. If he regains his 2022 form, the Bills could have a major steal.
Round 2, No. 56: DT Deone Walker, Kentucky
Deone Walker, who could have been a first-round pick if he declared for the 2024 NFL Draft earlier, had a slight dip in performance between 2023 and 2024. However, at 6’6” and 345 pounds, he still has the ability to anchor the defensive line and complement Ed Oliver. If Walker slips to the second round, the Bills should quickly snap him up.
Round 2, No. 62: RB TreVeyon Henderson, Ohio State
If the Bills are preparing for a future without James Cook beyond 2025, they may draft a running back like TreVeyon Henderson. The Ohio State standout averaged over six yards per carry and had 10+ rushing touchdowns in three of his four seasons. Additionally, he also proved capable as a receiver, racking up over 200 receiving yards. If Cook’s time in Buffalo is nearing its end, Henderson could serve as his ideal replacement.
