Blue Jays Stepped-Up On Bid To Sign $154 Million Pair Of Star Free Agents MLB Insider Reports

The Toronto Blue Jays passed on Juan Soto, Corbin Burnes, Max Fried, Teoscar Hernández, and a slew of other prospects this winter. They haven’t fully recovered from their losses yet. The only way to recoup from these losses is to sign new players during free agency. ESPN’s Jeff Passan recently indicated that the Blue Jays could sign pitcher Tanner Scott and outfielder Anthony Santander in free agency. According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, Santander is expected to sign for $100 million and Scott for $54 million.

“Anthony Santander would hit a lot of home runs at Rogers Centre.” “A rebuilt bullpen is essential, and Tanner Scott could anchor it,” Passan wrote. “There is enough talent still in Toronto, particularly with a rotation that’s among the best in the game, to spend its way to contention this year and give Guerrero even more reason to stay.”What the Jays have — and what can eventually break them out of a yearlong rut that began with the pursuit of Shohei Ohtani and will continue unabated into the third calendar year — is money. And, sooner or later, someone will take it.

Toronto has the funds, and it needs to spend them. Adding Scott would assist the back end of the bullpen, which struggled in 2024. The lefty is one of baseball’s top closers and would be a valuable addition to any team’s bullpen. Santander is coming off a breakout year in which he hit 44 home runs with a high OPS. He’s not the best defender, but his bat makes up for it. If Toronto can get both of these players, it will be in a lot better position than it is today.
