That’s a tough break for LSU and Tyree Adams. A sports hernia can be a challenging injury for an offensive lineman, especially considering the strain their position puts on the core and lower body. Losing Adams, a redshirt freshman with plenty of potential, is a setback for the Tigers, particularly with SEC matchups still ahead.
Brian Kelly will likely need to adjust the depth chart to fill the gap on the offensive line. Fortunately, LSU has some depth, but losing a young, developing talent like Adams isn’t ideal, especially during a crucial point in the season. Hopefully, his surgery goes well, and he can make a full recovery.
Tyree Adams’ injury and subsequent surgery are definitely unfortunate, especially considering how it occurred just before the game during warmups. With Adams having been LSU’s sixth offensive lineman, his absence leaves a noticeable gap in depth, especially given that he had earned a start earlier in the season against Nicholls State.
Now, with Adams out, LSU will need to lean on its younger and less experienced players like Weston Davis, Paul Mubenga, and the other freshmen listed. This presents both a challenge and an opportunity. Relying on these freshmen means the coaching staff will need to prepare them quickly in case any starters go down, which could be a lot to ask given the SEC’s level of competition.
Brian Kelly’s concern is valid, as depth along the offensive line is critical, particularly in a conference as tough as the SEC. Still, it will be a valuable experience for these young players to get reps and contribute to LSU’s season, even if it’s in a backup role.
