Just In: Bengals have completed the signing of top experience star

The Cincinnati Bengals have bolstered their defensive depth by signing Raymond Johnson III to their practice squad. Johnson, a 6-foot-3, 270-pound defensive end from Georgia Southern, is entering his third year in the NFL. Initially signed as an undrafted free agent by the New York Giants in 2021, Johnson made 15 appearances as a rookie, recording four tackles and one sack.

Since then, Johnson has spent time on the practice squads of both the Bengals in 2022 and the Detroit Lions in 2023. This past offseason, he was with the San Francisco 49ers and Jacksonville Jaguars but was waived by the Jaguars during final roster cuts. Johnson had been without a team for the first six weeks of the 2024 season before this return to Cincinnati.

The move fills the Bengals’ 16-man practice squad after defensive end Isaiah Thomas was signed by the Detroit Lions. Johnson’s addition gives the Bengals some extra depth at the defensive end position as they navigate the 2024 season.

Hamilton County is exploring the possibility of adding a dome to Paycor Stadium as part of ongoing discussions around renewing the Bengals’ lease. This investigation into the cost and logistics of a potential dome aligns with a broader vision for upgrading the stadium. Hamilton County Board of Commissioners President Alicia Reece highlighted the importance of forward-thinking, reflecting on past missed opportunities to add a dome during previous renovations.

This potential dome is just one aspect of a larger $1.25 billion renovation plan shared by county officials, which includes upgrading the north end zone, increasing premium seating, expanding the surrounding plaza, and adding an indoor practice facility. The idea of a dome could be particularly appealing for Cincinnati’s high-powered offense led by Joe Burrow, providing more consistent conditions during late-season games.

However, the dome, if approved, is still several years away from becoming a reality. For now, the Bengals must focus on immediate challenges, like staying competitive in the AFC North and their upcoming clash with the Cleveland Browns.
