Florida true freshman quarterback DJ Lagway has earned a spot in the Gators’ quarterback rotation alongside super-senior Graham Mertz. However, during the third quarter of their Week 7 game against Tennessee, Mertz suffered an apparent non-contact leg injury after throwing a 13-yard touchdown pass to tight end Arlis Boardingham, which extended Florida’s lead to 10-0. This injury could force head coach Billy Napier to consider making Lagway the full-time starter as the Gators move forward in the season.

Graham Mertz exited Florida’s Week 7 matchup against Tennessee with a leg injury after a strong performance, completing 11 of 15 passes for 125 yards and a touchdown. Freshman quarterback DJ Lagway, who had previously stepped up in Mertz’s absence in Week 2, may now take on a bigger role. Lagway, who threw for 456 yards and three touchdowns in that earlier game, is now likely tasked with leading Florida in holding off the No. 8 Volunteers and securing an upset victory at home.
Graham Mertz is still limping heavily and neither has his helmet nor is watching play.
DJ Lagway throws a terrible interception on the first play. No idea what he was looking at. #Gators
