BREAKING NEWS: Bruins place another top sensational defenseman on waivers

The Boston Bruins have placed defenseman Ian Mitchell on waivers to assign him to the AHL, following his recovery from an injury. Mitchell, who joined the Bruins via a trade with the Blackhawks in 2023, played 13 NHL games last season and had two points. He was more productive in the AHL with six goals and 24 points in 42 games. This waiver move comes as he returns to full health and prepares to rejoin the minors.

Ian Mitchell, drafted in the second round of the 2017 NHL Draft by the Blackhawks, had a standout collegiate career at the University of Denver, where he tallied 89 points in 116 games. While his offensive production hasn’t fully translated to the NHL, he could see more opportunity in the AHL with the Providence Bruins this season, especially after Mason Lohrei’s promotion to the NHL. Mitchell’s skill set may allow him to play a larger role in Providence as he seeks to elevate his pro career.
