The Montreal Canadiens just waived the Calgary Flames’ Quebec-born forward Jakob Pelletier.
Many assumed Kent Hughes would want to get him for free, but this was not the case. He elected to continue with the young players who were already in place, such as Emil Heineman, Alex Barre-Boulet, and Oliver Kapanen, which is completely acceptable.
However, we’ve recently discovered that the rumors linking Pelletier to the Habs were not wholly unfounded, since the Canadiens were previously involved in trade talks to acquire him.
Kent Hughes previously worked on a trade involving Jakob Pelletier

Interesting!
However, at the time of these discussions, the Flames were unwilling to move the Quebec-born forward, and nothing occurred.
Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton’s interest in Pelletier has obviously evaporated, as they did not even claim him on waivers.
However, another question remains.
If Jakob Pelletier were able to play for the Laval Rocket, would Hughes/Gorton’s interest be renewed?
I get the impression that it would, and I believe Pelletier is a name to keep an eye on, especially given that the Habs just attempted to acquire him in a trade.
Pelletier, 5’9′ and 170 pounds, has 50 points in his last 52 AHL games and 10 points in 37 NHL games.
The Calgary Flames selected him in the first round of the 2019 NHL Draft (26th overall).
L'intérêt du CH doit avoir changé : Pelletier n'a pas été réclamé au ballottage cette semaine → https://t.co/9uJEea0vi0
