Brady considers rethink after admitting his attacking approach left Cobblers open and singles out some players to blame for their consistency

Jon Brady does not want anyone to be blamed for the Cobblers’ recent troubles, stressing that it is his responsibility to find solutions after his aggressive style in Saturday’s encounter against Wrexham failed.

The Town manager has always sworn to play on the front foot and take the positive option regardless of the opposition, even League One’s big boys, but the last two games have not gone as planned, with Town easily defeated 4-2 by Bolton and 4-1 by Wrexham.

However, another defining element of Brady’s tenure has been his adaptability and willingness to play to the strengths of the players at his disposal, which may necessitate a small rethinking in the future.

“One thing we didn’t do is sit in and try and soak up pressure,” Brady pointed out. “We went to Wrexham and wanted to win the game, but unfortunately, the other side is leaving us wide open.

“I won’t name and blame players. It is up to me first and foremost to look into that and get it right. There are three crosses along the left side where we are overly passive, remain far away from the ball, and dangle a leg.

“You have to be aggressive, and in the second goal, we lose a duel in the middle of the pitch, where we are expected to get the ball. We’re just so easy on it, and Liam (McCarron) is pushed over.

“The third goal is disheartening because Jack Baldwin is going to head the ball and gets shoved over, and the guy heads it in. It’s frustrating, but that’s how it is. If they are doing that, we must be aggressive as well.

“I would like us to be as aggressive as Wrexham, and I believe we have been. But we usually work to the players’ strengths, and perhaps I might mix those a little more.”
There were some candid words shared at full-time on Saturday, with Brady adding, “There’s always a discussion. Win, lose, or draw. It’s healthy because you have to converse and communicate, and we need to make sure we do this correctly. “The next league game is against Orient, which is a big game.”
