The Longhorns will be missing Quinn Ewers and Derek Williams on Saturday.
With less than an hour until their game against the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, the No. 1 Texas Longhorns have announced that redshirt junior quarterback Quinn Ewers and sophomore safety Derek Williams will be out on Saturday.
Ewers suffered a non-contact injury to his oblique early in the second quarter of last Saturday’s 56-7 triumph over UTSA, which Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian later disclosed was a strain, leaving him as the Longhorns’ starting quarterback “week to week.” Sarkisian announced on Thursday that redshirt freshman Arch Manning would start, despite the fact that Ewers had “made great strides” in the days following his injury.
Williams, who has six tackles this season and his first career interception in the win over Michigan, is sidelined with a hamstring issue.
In further favorable pre-game news, junior running back Jaydon Blue was dressed and warming up after missing the UTSA game due to an ankle injury received in Ann Arbor. So was sophomore running back Quintrevion Wisner, who Sarkisian had previously placed as a game-time decision due to a knock against the Roadrunners. In the post-game press conference, Sarkisian stated that Wisner might have returned if necessary.
Redshirt sophomore defensive tackle Aaron Bryant (knee) and sophomore safety Jelani McDonald (ankle) are two more players who did not play in last week’s game but were not listed as injured. Bryant and freshman defensive tackle Melvin Hills were not dressed for pregame warmups, but McDonald was in uniform and participated.
