The Minnesota Twins placed outfielder Max Kepler on the 10-day disabled list due to left patellar tendinitis. This marks Kepler’s second time on the injured list this season, having previously missed 21 games with a right knee contusion.
Prior to his injury, Kepler was hitting 253 with 8 home runs and 42 RBIs. His absence comes at a crucial time as the Twins were in a tight race for the American League’s second wild-card spot with the Kansas City Royals.
To fill Kepler’s spot, the Twins called up DaShawn Keirsey Jr. from Triple-A St. Paul. Keirsey, 27, was drafted by Minnesota in 2018 and is being called up to the majors for the first time. He had an impressive season in Triple-A, hitting .292 with 14 home runs and 36 stolen bases in 103 games. Keirsey’s promotion was made possible by transferring pitcher Kody Funderburk to the 60-day injured list, opening a spot on the 40-man roster.
