With less than a week before their regular season opener against the New England Patriots, the Cincinnati Bengals formally selected their captains for the 2024 NFL season.
Bengals officially name 2024 captains
The Bengals chose eight different players captains, beginning with star quarterback Joe Burrow, who is returning after a season-ending wrist injury that necessitated surgery last year. Burrow has been the Bengals’ captain every season since he was taken first overall in the 2020 draft. It is unusual for a rookie to be named captain, but Burrow is not your typical player.
Overall, Cincinnati named three offensive players, three defensive players, and two special teams players as captains for the 24th season. The picks were made by team voting. Here is the whole list:
Joe Burrow is the quarterback, and Ted Karras is the center.

Team members include Sam Hubbard (defensive end), Von Bell (safety), Germaine Pratt (linebacker), and Akeem Davis-Gaither (special teams linebacker).
Evan McPherson, kicker (special teams).
Four of these players, McPherson, Davis-Gaither, Pratt, and Brown Jr., will be captains for the first time in Cincinnati, while Burrow, Hubbard, and Karras have all been leaders with the Bengals before. Similarly, Bell previously served as a Bengals captain before joining the Cincinnati Bengals for the 2023 season. He’s now back in the black and orange, serving as the team’s captain after being signed in free agency this offseason.
Every NFL team approaches the job of captain differently, and the coveted ‘C’ patch can represent different things to different teams and players. However, captains are often experienced players who can be counted on to set a good example both on and off the field. With that in mind, it appears that Cincinnati has chosen some strong captain selections for the 2024 season.
