BREAKING NEWS: Just In, Montreal Canadiens Edged Maple Leafs In A Battle To Sign Former No. 6 Pick

Filip Zadina, the former top prospect who has struggled to find consistent success in the NHL, appears to be on the verge of signing a professional tryout (PTO) deal with one of three teams.

The Toronto Maple Leafs, Montreal Canadiens, or Colorado Avalanche. This development comes after initial reports suggested that Zadina might be linked to the Buffalo Sabres, but it seems his agent, Darren Ferris, has indicated that he will sign elsewhere.

Czech reporter Pavel Barta noted on social media that Zadina has received PTO offers from all three of these franchises, and he is expected to make his decision soon. A PTO deal would allow Zadina to participate in training camp and try to earn a spot on the regular-season roster.

Zadina, who was drafted sixth overall by the Detroit Red Wings in the 2018 NHL Draft, was once viewed as a top-tier talent with significant goal-scoring potential. However, his NHL career has been underwhelming, with just 41 goals in 262 games across six seasons. Despite this, his youth (he’s only 24) and potential upside still make him an intriguing option for teams looking to bolster their roster with a low-risk, high-reward player.

Montreal’s interest is particularly notable given their history with Zadina. The Canadiens passed on him in the 2018 draft, choosing Jesperi Kotkaniemi with the third overall pick. Zadina famously vowed to “fill their net” with goals, a promise that has yet to materialize but adds a layer of intrigue to the possibility of him joining the Habs.

Whether he chooses Toronto, Montreal, or Colorado, Zadina will have an opportunity to prove himself in a new environment. Each of these teams could offer him a fresh start and a chance to resurrect his career by contributing to their respective cores. With training camps fast approaching, Zadina’s decision could be announced soon, and his performance in camp will be crucial in determining whether he can secure a permanent spot on an NHL roster.
