Former Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm has been waived by the Detroit Lions.
With the NFL preseason officially over, teams are beginning to make their final round of cuts, and one former Bulldog did not escape this wave. Quarterback Jake Fromm signed with the Detroit Lions a few weeks ago, and the organization dismissed him on Tuesday.
The Buffalo Bills selected him in the fifth round of the 2020 draft. He subsequently spent time with the Giants in 2021 before joining the Commanders in 2022, where he remained until his release earlier this year. Fromm played for the Lions this past weekend and had an excellent stat line. He finished 6 of 8 for 89 yards.
Fromm started two games with the Giants in 2021, throwing for 210 yards, one touchdown, three interceptions, and completing 45% of his passes. Fromm’s professional career has been up and down, and he has yet to establish his footing since being drafted.
Fromm was Georgia’s starter for three seasons. He began the 2017 season as Jacob Eason’s backup, but an injury opened the door, and Fromm has not looked back since. During his time at Georgia, Fromm passed for 8,224 yards, 78 touchdowns, 18 interceptions, and a 63% completion rate. He also helped the Bulldogs earn their first-ever college football playoff appearance.
