Sunderland forward Jack Clarke is scheduled to have a medical at Town this morning, after the Blues and Black Cats agreed on a fee for the 23-year-old last night.

Town will pay £15 million up front, with the transaction possibly worth up to £20 million. Tottenham, Clarke’s old club, is entitled to 25% of the profit gained by the Wearsiders from the sale.

Clarke, who was born in York, joined Leeds United’s academy in 2009 and made his senior debut with the Whites in 2018, making five starts and 20 substitute appearances while scoring two goals.

His efforts for the West Yorkshire club prompted an £8,500,000 move to Tottenham in July 2019, after Town manager Kieran McKenna left the North London club.

After loan spells at Leeds, QPR, Stoke, and Sunderland, the move to Wearside became permanent in July 2022, with a four-year contract.

Clarke had previously been linked with Lazio, West Ham United, and Southampton, where he scored 15 goals and assisted four times last season.

Overall for Sunderland, the former England U20 international has made 90 starts and four substitute appearances, scoring 27 goals.

The Blues have been looking for a left-sided forward, and a deal for Hull City’s Jaden Philogene was almost completed when the England U21 international decided to rejoin Aston Villa.

Meanwhile, Town are still working on the formalities for Armando Broja’s loan move from Chelsea.

Clarke and Broja will be the Blues’ 10th and 11th acquisitions of the summer, with Anel Ahmedhodžić, a centre-half from Sheffield United, expected to be the 12th and potentially final signing.
