The Texas Longhorns faced another injury concern on Saturday. Fourth-year starting center Jake Majors was observed wearing a boot during the Longhorns’ second fall camp scrimmage due to what is now described as a minor ankle ailment. Texas largely avoided injury during the 2023 offseason. The 2024 offseason has not been as beneficial to the Horns. Majors joins the growing list of Texas players sidelined for the year. Fortunately for Majors and his team, the setback is not considered a “serious injury,” according to Texas insider Bobby Burton. Even yet, the Longhorns were unwilling to risk more injury.
Earlier this offseason, Cedric Baxter Jr., one of Texas’ two anticipated key running backs, suffered a season-ending knee injury. Christian Clark, a highly regarded freshman running back, also suffered an injury, further limiting Texas’ running back depth. The Longhorns’ stacked running back room can withstand depth losses. Jaydon Blue, the 2023 backup running back, returns after a successful sophomore season, and talented athletes Tre Wisner and freshman Jerrick Gibson are ready to take carries.
Veteran center Jake Majors, on the other hand, may be more difficult to replace given the lack of expertise at the position. Cole Hutson, a third-year contributor and 2022 starting right guard, might potentially switch from guard to center to replace Majors. Texas will hope to have Majors back to full strength before it opens the season against the Colorado State Rams on August 31.
