Phil Parkinson has not ruled out more arrivals and departures at The Racecourse before the transfer window ends.
Seven new signings arrived at The Racecourse ahead of Saturday’s 3-2 win against Wycombe Wanderers on the opening day of the League One season. Midfielder Ollie Rathbone, brought in from Rotherham United for a club record transfer fee last Friday, was not involved at the weekend but is set to face Sheffield United in the Carabao Cup first round tonight at Bramall Lane.
Parkinson stated that they are constantly evaluating the possibility of bringing in new players. He is pleased with Ollie, a versatile player who can play as an eight or off a striker. He only arrived on Friday and had a training session on Saturday to prepare for Tuesday’s game.
League One clubs are limited to a 22-man squad, but this excludes goalkeepers and players under the age of 21 at the start of the calendar year.
Midfielder Jordan Davies has joined Grimsby Town on a season-long loan, and Parkinson says more players may depart now that the squad has reached its maximum capacity.
“We have to get the numbers right, everyone knows that,” said the Reds’ manager.
“We were looking at Jordan going out, and we were talking to Rotherham about Ollie, and they happened at the same time, which we needed.
“It’s excellent for Jordan to make his move. You can be a decent squad player for so long, but after another season of not starting games, I believe it was time to let him go. “He will be fantastic for Grimsby.”
