Lauri Markkanen may not be one of the NBA players making waves at the Olympics, but his performance is making headlines. It has long been known that the Golden State Warriors are very interested in getting his services from the Utah Jazz.
However, both teams are struggling to negotiate an acceptable agreement that allows the Jazz to move their franchise centerpiece to the Dubs without jeopardizing their rebuild schedule. Furthermore, reports of a possible 1-2 partnership with Brandon Ingram may have shattered the Warriors’ chances of acquiring him.
An NBA insider indicated that Golden State is far from finished in their pursuit. He added that the Dubs are doing all in their ability to complete the transaction without losing crucial contributors.
Golden State Warriors remain steadfast in Lauri Markkanen pursuit
Respected NBA expert Marc Steiner reported that the Warriors are still interested in adding Markkanen to their squad without trading any of their best young talents elsewhere.
According to prominent NBA insider Marc Steiner, the Warriors are still pursuing Markkanen without making an offer for Podziemski or Jonathan Kuminga. Obviously, this will not excite the curiosity of Danny Ainge, Jazz CEO of Basketball Operations. However, given recent circumstances, it appears that trading their star forward will no longer be a concern.
In the same piece, Stein reported that the Jazz had dispatched instructors to Markkanen’s house in Finland to assist him get in better shape for the 2024-25 season. The Jazz would not make such a move if they were truly considering sending Markkanen to the Bay Area. It’s understandable that the Golden State Warriors want to get Markkanen. Despite only appearing in 55 games due to injuries, the Finn averaged 23.2 PPG, 8.2 RPG, and 2.0 APG last season.
If the Warriors can obtain him without trading Podziemski or Kuminga, they will be one of the most scary teams to play next season.
