Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith is anticipated to return to practice next week after missing a few days due to hip and knee issues, according to coach Mike Macdonald.
Smith observed the Seahawks’ fan fest practice from the sidelines and is scheduled for additional tests. Macdonald expressed optimism about Smith’s return, noting the situation looks promising. Smith was injured during practice last Tuesday and underwent imaging on Thursday.
With Geno Smith sidelined, Sam Howell has been taking reps with the Seahawks’ starting offense, including during Saturday’s practice. Howell, acquired from Washington in March after starting every game for the Commanders last season, is temporarily stepping in, but Smith remains the clear starter for Seattle.
Coach Mike Macdonald appreciated Howell’s opportunity to work with the starters, noting that the offense maintained its usual performance. Macdonald is eager to have Smith return to practice soon.
