According to NBA reporter Tim Kawakami of The Athletic, the Golden State Warriors could sign Stephen Curry to a one-year, $62.6 million contract extension this offseason.
Curry, the greatest shooter in NBA history, agreed to a four-year, $215 million agreement with the Warriors in August 2021. He will earn $55.8 million next season and $59.6 million in 2025-26.
Curry, a future Hall of Famer, is poised to become an unrestricted free agency in the offseason of 2026.
“We did not discuss it. “He’s busy right now, and he should stay busy and focused on the Olympics,” Warriors owner Joe Lacob stated. “But if he wants to discuss it, it is up to him. He has not mentioned anything about it, but if he wants to, we will absolutely address it. … Let’s put it this way, Stephen Curry. I absolutely expect him to be a Warrior for life. I believed Klay would be too, but I was mistaken.
“And I believe Steph has been… What he’s meant to this organization has been great, and we intend to see him play for as long as he wants and is able to play at the level he’s maintained. He’s in excellent shape, so I have no reason to assume he couldn’t play for much longer. Perhaps he’s Tom Brady.
The Warriors missed the playoffs in 2024. They lost the 9-10 play-in tournament game to the Sacramento Kings.
Curry played in 74 games this past season. He averaged 26.4 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game, shooting 45.0% from the field, 40.8% from beyond the arc, and 92.3% from the free throw line.
The Warriors selected Curry with the seventh overall choice in the 2009 NBA Draft. Curry, who will turn 37 next season, has lifetime averages of 24.8 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 6.4 assists. He’s won four championships, two MVP awards, one Finals MVP, and two scoring titles.
Klay Thompson left Golden State for the Dallas Mavericks in free agency this offseason. Curry and Thompson had a record of 473–193.
