Charlton Athletic have been highly active in the summer transfer window thus far, but may one of their first-team players leave in the coming weeks?

Nathan Jones’ side may have lost George Dobson and Alfie May this summer, but they have quickly secured the likes of Luke Berry, Matt Godden, and Gassam Ahadme as they attempt to cement their playoff hopes this season.

One player, in particular, is currently facing an agonizing wait to recover from surgery, as speculation about his future exit lingers.

Ness in a race against time

According to journalist Richard Cawley, Charlton Athletic defender Lucas Ness has undergone surgery for an injury incurred during the previous season.

The defender has shown interest in his services ahead of a prospective exit, but he is presently unable to return to action or leave the club, leaving him with just over four weeks to gain fitness to either play for Charlton or complete a loan or permanent exit.

How did Ness fare last season?

Last season, the 22-year-old made 21 appearances in all competitions for Charlton Athletic, with the majority of those coming as a substitute rather than a regular starter.

During that period, Ness contributed to a goal for Charlton against Cray Valley PM during an FA Cup replay, although he has only appeared four times for the club since the beginning of February.

Is an exit from Charlton likely?

With Ness appearing as a squad player under Nathan Jones thus far, it came as a surprise to some when Charlton Athletic exercised the one-year option in his contract, preventing him from becoming a free agency.

There have been no verified names of teams interested in signing the defender, but he does have options if he decides to leave the Valley this summer.
