According to ESPN’s Fields Yates, the New Orleans Saints have signed Jesse Davis, a former Pittsburgh Steelers offensive lineman. In a corresponding move, New Orleans placed offensive tackle Justin Herron on injured reserve.
Davis, 32, has made 72 career starts in 95 games spanning seven seasons. In August 2022, Minnesota transferred him to Pittsburgh in exchange for a 2025 conditional seventh-round draft pick. Davis appeared in 14 games but made no starts during his one season with the Steelers. His contract was not renewed until 2023.
On November 24, the San Francisco 49ers added Davis to their active roster for their Thanksgiving game against the Seattle Seahawks. Davis signed with their practice squad on October 31st and also spent time with the Seattle Seahawks before moving to San Francisco. They promoted him from the practice squad due to injuries to starters Aaron Banks and Spencer Burford.
Davis has played tackle and guard during his seven-year NFL career. He signed the Vikings as an unrestricted free agency in March 2022, having previously spent six seasons with the Miami Dolphins.
Davis was a five-year starter for Miami. In 2017, 2018, and 2020, he was the primary starter at right guard, then in 2019 and 2021, he played right tackle. Davis has formerly played both left guard and left tackle. His finest season, according to Pro Football Focus, was in 2020, when he received a 62.6 overall rating. Davis established himself as a prominent contributor in a variety of positions while in Miami, where he received the most of his playing time.
Davis has played sparingly over the last two seasons, but his 72 career starts and versatility might benefit New Orleans, which is in need of offensive line help.
Davis was undrafted from Idaho in 2015. He played one season with the Seattle Seahawks before joining the New York Jets (2016), Dolphins (2016-2021), Vikings (2022), Steelers (2022), and 49ers (2023). The Saints will become his fifth NFL team.
