Tigers News Report: Tigers Fans Favorite Pitcher Jack Flaherty Set To Join Baltimore Orioles

Orioles Eyes On Jack Flaherty for Trade Deadline

Detroit Tigers' Jack Flaherty has 'enjoyed every single second here'

As the MLB trade deadline approaches, The Athletic claims that the Baltimore Orioles are interested in acquiring Detroit Tigers pitcher Jack Flaherty. Flaherty has been a standout in a pitching-starved market, making him an ideal target for a team in need of rotation depth.

Flaherty, 28, was dealt to Baltimore from the St. Louis Cardinals last season and had a turbulent time with the Orioles, compiling a 6.75 ERA in nine games. Despite last year’s problems, Flaherty has improved dramatically this season, with a 2.95 ERA across 106 2/3 innings and high strikeout and walk rates.

Could Jack Flaherty Return to the Orioles?

As they deal with injuries and free agency uncertainty, the Orioles are looking to strengthen their pitching staff. Their reluctance to trade for players with expiring contracts raises concerns about Flaherty’s fit, especially given his contract position. Nonetheless, his modest purchase cost and current form make him an appealing prospect.

Including a reliever in the deal, such as Detroit’s struggling Kenta Maeda, might lessen Baltimore’s prospect costs. Maeda, who has postseason experience, has been demoted to the bullpen and comes with a large deal.

Baltimore’s aggressive posture before the deadline and willingness to trade prospects or take on contracts may pave the way for a reunion with Flaherty. The Orioles’ administration, backed by new ownership, is willing to embrace such actions to improve their playoff chances.

With the trade deadline approaching, the Orioles’ decisions to acquire pitching talent will be critical in their quest for postseason success.
