Last season, Mobley had a fantastic run that highlighted his remarkable all-around abilities and defensive prowess. The 7-foot center set career highs in several statistical categories, including field goal percentage, three-point percentage, free throw percentage, rebounds, and assists, averaging 15.7 points and 9.4 rebounds per game.
Mobley’s flexibility and two-way effect were evident throughout the season and in the playoffs. He was one of only four NBA players to average at least 15 points, nine rebounds, three assists, and 1.4 blocks, along with Anthony Davis of the Los Angeles Lakers, Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs, and Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers. Mobley’s defensive prowess was emphasized by his franchise-record 21 blocks in a single playoff series against Orlando, and he became the third-youngest Cavalier to have a 30-point game in the postseason.
The Cavs star’s development into a powerful two-way force has cemented his place as one of the league’s most promising young players. With his ongoing improvement, Cleveland is well-positioned to capitalize on its success and make a strong playoff run, particularly with Mobley in the frontcourt.

Mobley’s recent extension sparked great interest because of the high sum of money involved. In a piece published on the league’s official website, Altman revealed why the big man agreed to a $269 million contract.
“We are thrilled to sign Evan to a long-term extension, solidifying his place as a cornerstone of our franchise,” according to Altman. “Evan has rapidly established himself as one of the league’s best defensive players, and we have only scratched the surface of his full potential.
Since being drafted, he has only known winning basketball and has proven to be instrumental in our team’s success. His tremendous work ethic, adaptability, and dedication to success both on and off the court exemplify all it means to be a Cleveland Cavalier. We believe Evan’s greatest basketball is still ahead of him, and we can’t wait to continue creating something special together for many years to come,” Altman stated.
Aside from Mobley, the Cavs have also signed All-Star shooting guard Donovan Mitchell to a new contract. Along with the two, the organization still boasts outstanding point guards Darius Garland and Jarrett Allen to round out its current roster.
It remains to be seen whether Cleveland made the correct decision with Mobley or simply overpaid the big man. In any case, they’ll face stiff competition in the Eastern Conference from the Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers soon.
