Charlton Athletic have signed goalkeeper Sophie Whitehouse on a one-year contract.
The Addicks made the announcement via a post on their official club website this morning.
Whitehouse joins Charlton Athletic after a spell at former Barclays Women’s Championship club Lewes. The 27-year-old Republic of Ireland international goalkeeper spent two years with the Sussex club, where she consistently impressed.
In her professional career, the athlete has also represented Tottenham Hotspur, Birmingham City, and Bristol City.
Whitehouse is a newcomer to the Republic of Ireland squad. She has yet to appear on The Girls In Green, but her career is moving in the right direction.
After joining Charlton Athletic, Whitehouse stated, “It’s incredibly exciting; it’s great to be in such a professional environment and go to work.
“I’ve previously worked with Karen [Hills], and I really appreciate her playstyle. Charlton did incredibly well last year and came very close to promotion, so I’m looking forward to this year and hopefully grabbing that additional point!”
Whitehouse becomes Charlton Athletic’s sixth signing during the summer transfer window. South East Londoners have done an excellent job recruiting in recent times.
