According to Dan Hayes (The Athletic), in his most recent Twins roundup, the Twins are searching for starting pitching, particularly starters with expiring contracts.
This should come as no surprise, given that starting pitching is the team’s biggest vulnerability coming into the trade deadline, and the organization has been on a tight budget since their Bally Sports television contract terminated after the 2023 season. The Twins are unlikely to be able to commit extra funds to a starter after this season, and their ability to add major payroll for the remainder of the season is also uncertain.
Two starting pitchers with expiring contracts should be transferred before the trade deadline: Detroit Tigers’ Jack Flaherty and Toronto Blue Jays’ Yusei Kikuchi. Both have relatively affordable contracts and should fit inside the Twins’ budget.
