Brandon Aiyuk could be a great addition to the Colts’ offense. His consistent production over the past two seasons, including 1,342 yards and 7.5 touchdowns in 2023, demonstrates his reliability and playmaking ability. Adding Aiyuk would give the Colts a dynamic receiving threat that could complement Michael Pittman Jr. and further elevate the offense.
Given Shane Steichen’s creative offensive schemes, Aiyuk’s versatility could be maximized, providing more options and mismatches for defenses to contend with. It would also alleviate some pressure off Anthony Richardson, who would benefit from having another proven target to throw to. Exploring a trade for Aiyuk could be a smart move for the Colts as they look to take their offense to the next level.

We have two questions: Will the Colts make it work, and should they?
The answer to the first question is yes; they can make it work. If Aiyuk is someone they truly want, an NFL team can make it happen (usually). The Colts are in a position financially to figure it out.
It remains to be seen whether they can make it work. Aiyuk wants a lot of money. The Colts just signed Pittman to a new contract, and while they have salary room, it isn’t excessive. Tying up a large portion of your cap in two receivers may not be the wisest move. (Don’t forget who the Colts’ general manager is, and how unlikely it is that he would give up selections or cap space to sign someone like Aiyuk.) A move like this would propel the Colts into the contemporary era by assembling a formidable offensive attack featuring standout players at the skilled positions. That does not imply that the benefits would outweigh the potential long-term harms.
At the end of the day, the chances of the Colts acquiring Brandon Aiyuk are slim to none. The limiting factors such as the needed draft capital, size of the contract, willingness of the 49ers to engage, and the conservative nature of Chris Ballard are too much to overcome in this situation. This would be a win now type of move by the Colts, and I am not sure the organization feels they are quite there.
