Birmingham City is “willing to spend big” to persuade Connor Goldson to quit Rangers, according to Football Scotland.
According to the news outlet’s website (7 July), the experienced central defender has traveled with the first-team group to the Netherlands for pre-season training.
However, his future at Ibrox is uncertain due to interest from Saudi Arabia and Tom Brady’s Birmingham side [The Sun, 30 June], with the League One club willing to spend big to close the transfer.
Rangers to sell Connor Goldson?
Central defence has been a difficult area of the pitch for some time, with injury issues and concerns about form and profile.
Goldson was originally one of the first names on the squad sheet, but he lost his spot after a series of errors, and his season was cut short due to a knee injury.
However, with Leon Balogun signing a new contract and John Souttar developing as a significant alternative at the back, Philippe Clement must make a big decision.
Clinton Nsiala has joined the club, although Ben Davies is expected to leave [Football Scotland, 1 June], freeing up a position in the squad. If Goldson leaves, it might bring in a lot of money for the club, allowing the manager to reinvest in other parts of the squad.
If Birmingham or Saudi come in with large money, the club will have to make a big decision, which will be interesting to watch.
In other Rangers news, the club is in advanced talks to sign a new forward after a £3.5 million clause was dropped.
