Former New England Patriots executive Steve Cargile, who left the team after 13 years earlier this offseason, has found a new home. Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston originally reported that the 42-year-old will join the Houston Texans as senior personnel executive and assistant director of pro scouting.
Cargile, a former safety who played 16 games in the NFL, first joined the Patriots in February 2011 as a scouting assistant and assistant special teams coach. He began his career in professional scouting in 2012 and rose up the ranks over the next decade, winning three Super Bowl rings.
In 2021, the Patriots promoted him to director of professional scouting. Cargile’s contract was not renewed earlier this year, and he left the organization in May after three seasons in the post.
The Patriots made various front office and scouting department alterations following Bill Belichick’s departure, including parting ways with the seasoned executive. The organization also named Eliot Wolf executive vice president of player personnel, hired Alonzo Highsmith as a senior personnel executive, and rehired Bobby Brown in an unannounced role.
Taylor Redd, an area scout, left as well. Casey Belognia has been added to the club’s roster to perform a similar position going ahead.
Cargile’s move to the Texans reunites him with Nick Caserio, the Patriots’ longtime director of player personnel. Caserio left New England in 2021 to become Houston’s general manager.
