With the 2024 NFL season just around the corner, the Indianapolis Colts are a relatively unknown team. Nobody knows what to anticipate from them.
Anthony Richardson is starting his second NFL season after sustaining a season-ending shoulder injury in his first year. He has the potential to be a future superstar, but he must first put in the work.
Chris Ballard made a significant move in free agency by re-signing standout wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. to a rich long-term contract. He then added Adonai Mitchell in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
Both of these moves were critical to Richardson’s future success. While the offense appears to be improving, more work remains to be done.
Indianapolis Colts Projected To Land Key Offensive Playmaker
ESPN’s Matt Miller has released an extremely early 2025 NFL mock draft. Miller’s mock draft had the Colts selecting Michigan tight end Colston Loveland.
“Who could resist the urge to offer Anthony Richardson more playmakers? Tight end is still one of the team’s few offensive question areas, and Loveland will be a top-10 player on my preseason rankings due to his receiver skills and superb run blocking. He caught 45 receptions for four touchdowns in Michigan’s run-heavy attack last season, and the 6-5 junior has top agility and speed in the open field as a receiving option.
Loveland clearly appears to be a potential NFL star. The Indianapolis Colts could use an upgrade at tight end, so the fit is ideal.
Loveland had an important role in Michigan’s 2023 college football season as they won the national championship. He totaled 45 receptions for 649 yards and four touchdowns.
Standing at 6-foot-5 and 245 pounds, Loveland would provide Richardson with a large target with excellent catching skills. Those two elements combined would make him an ideal fit for Shane Steichen’s offense.
The Indianapolis Colts’ future is currently unknown. They have the potential to be a contender in the near future, but additional development is required.
Ballard will have his job cut out for him in building a championship contender. However, with the appropriate moves made over the next few years and Richardson’s progress, the chance exists.
